Sunday, September 27, 2026 -The Niger State Police Command has arrested a suspected child trafficker, Lami Bako and rescued a two-month-old baby.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun disclosed
this in a statement on 25th September, 2026.
According to the PPRO, the 35-year-old suspect was
intercepted around Kainji Junction on September 20 with a crying baby.
The suspect admitted during interrogation that she was not
the biological mother of the child and claimed that an unidentified woman had
given the baby to her.
“On
20/09/2026 at about 3:30a.m, Police operatives attached to Mokwa Div while on
routine patrol intercepted one Lami Bako, 35yrs of Mokwa around Kainji Junction
with a crying two-month old baby,” the statement read.
"The
cry of the baby raised suspicion and the woman was brought to the station.
"After
extensive interrogation, the suspect confessed that she was not the biological
mother of the child, claiming that the baby was given to her by an unknown
woman for reasons yet to be ascertained.
“The suspect
is in custody undergoing further investigation to determine the circumstances
surrounding her possession of the baby and identify other individuals involved
while efforts are in top gear to locate and reunite the baby with her mother.
"The
case has been transferred to SCID for further investigation."
