Sunday, September 27, 2026 -The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects over alleged illegal possession and fabrication of firearms in Misau Local Government Area of the state.
The command also arrested a 26-year-old man, Lukman Alhaji
Nasiru, for allegedly raping a 50-year-old mentally ill woman in Gamawa LGA.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib,
disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, saying the arrests were
recorded as part of the command’s efforts to tackle illegal arms proliferation
and sexual offences in the state.
According to the statement, operatives of the Misau Division
on September 25, 2026, intercepted Abubakar Ahmad, alias Tino, 30, of Makara
Huta Quarters, Misau, while he was allegedly in possession of a locally
fabricated pistol loaded with a live cartridge.
The police said preliminary investigation showed that Ahmad
was attempting to hand over the firearm to Tijjani Yakubu, 35, of the same
address, who was being remanded at a correctional centre over alleged criminal
conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property.
During interrogation, Yakubu allegedly admitted ownership of
the pistol and told investigators that he had given it to Ahmad for
safekeeping.
He reportedly further disclosed that he bought the firearm
from Bappah Kawu, 48, a welder from Tashar Masu, Misau.
Police subsequently arrested Kawu, who allegedly confessed
to fabricating and selling the pistol to Yakubu for N30,000.
A search of his workshop also led to the recovery of two
locally fabricated dane guns and materials allegedly used for firearm
fabrication, including a hacksaw, files and long iron pipes.
The command said the three suspects remained in custody,
while the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation
Department, Bauchi, for further investigation.
In a separate incident in Gamawa, police arrested Lukman
Alhaji Nasiru, 26, of Garin Malam Village, over an alleged rape involving a
50-year-old mentally ill woman.
The police said the victim’s younger brother reported the
incident at the Gamawa Divisional Police Headquarters on September 25.
According to the report, the suspect allegedly lured the
woman to the outskirts of Garin Malam on September 22, where he allegedly had
unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
The suspect was arrested following the report, while both he
and the victim were taken to the General Hospital, Gamawa, for medical
examination.
The police said investigation into the alleged rape was
ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, warned that
the command would not tolerate illegal possession and fabrication of firearms
or sexual offences, while urging residents to provide credible information to
the police.
