Friday, July 25, 2025 - The Abia State Police Command says it has arrested another suspect linked to recent terrorist and armed robbery activities against students of Abia State University, Uturu, ABSU, and other residents of the area.
According to a press release signed by the Police Public
Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the latest arrest was made on July 23,
2025, at approximately 9:40 a.m. following an intelligence-led operation by
officers of the Uturu Divisional Headquarters.
It stated that the suspect, Chukwujekwu Uzoedo, a
26-year-old male from Uduma Ezinnachi in Okigwe, Imo State, was apprehended at
his hideout within Abia State.
It added that Chukwujekwu is believed to be an accomplice in
a criminal gang that has been implicated in coordinated robberies targeting
ABSU students and surrounding residents.
The Abia Police spokesperson said that Uzoedo’s arrest
followed an earlier operation on July 17, 2025, in which four other suspects
were apprehended in connection with the same case, noting that the Police
Command has intensified efforts to dismantle the network behind the crimes.
“During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly
confessed to his role in the armed robbery operation. Authorities also
recovered several stolen items in his possession, including: one HP laptop, one
Tecno Android phone, one Tecno POP 5, one Itel Android phone, one Infinix
Android phone, one iPhone 16, one white earpod, one black earpod, and one
motorcycle.
“The recovered exhibits are believed to be part of the
valuables looted from victims during the attacks. The police say investigations
are still ongoing to trace and arrest other members of the syndicate still at
large,” the statement said.
It further urged members of the public to remain vigilant
and report suspicious activity promptly to the police.
