Panic as American airlines flight aborts takeoff in Denver, passengers forced to evacuate via emergency slides

Sunday, July 27, 2025 - There was panic at Denver International Airport on Saturday after an American Airlines flight bound for Miami aborted takeoff and passengers were forced to evacuate via emergency slides.

According to ABC News, the incident happened aboard Flight 3023, a Boeing 737 Max 8, which was carrying 173 passengers and six crew members. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the plane experienced a “possible landing gear incident during departure.”

Flight tracking data showed the aircraft reached a speed of 127 knots (nearly 150 mph) before it suddenly slowed down. Air traffic control audio revealed that the pilot reported an aborted takeoff, and the tower noted “a lot of smoke” and visible flames.

Video footage captured passengers sliding down from the aircraft onto the tarmac as emergency responders rushed to the scene. One passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, while six others were evaluated on site.

Passenger Mark Tsurkis, who was on board, told ABC News that he heard a loud boom just before takeoff. “I said, ‘That’s not good,’” he recalled. Moments later, he said passengers saw a wheel rolling past the cabin, followed by smoke and fire, which led to panic onboard.

Fire crews from Denver Fire Department quickly put out the flames. The plane was returned to the terminal, and a replacement aircraft was arranged for passengers to continue their trip to Miami.

American Airlines said the aircraft has been taken out of service for inspection and thanked their crew for handling the situation professionally. The FAA is currently investigating the incident.
