Thursday, June 26, 2025 - A Kaduna State High Court, sitting in Kaduna and presided over by Justice Amina Bello, has sentenced one Ezeani Victor Udochukwu to two years imprisonment for internet fraud.
Udochukwu was prosecuted by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a one-count charge of
impersonation.
The EFCC said the convict, between January and June 2025,
posed as a woman named “Ann Sandra” on Facebook to deceive and defraud
unsuspecting victims.
The charge read: “That you, Ezeani Victor Udochukwu (a.k.a.
Ann Sandra), between January and June 2025 in Kaduna, within the jurisdiction
of this Honourable Court, falsely represented yourself as Ann Sandra on
Facebook, knowing the claim to be untrue, and thereby committed an offence
punishable under Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.”
Upon arraignment, Udochukwu pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting counsel M.U. Gadaka urged the court to convict
and sentence him, while defence counsel pleaded for mercy, noting the
defendant’s remorse.
Justice Bello thereafter convicted Udochukwu and sentenced
him to two years in prison with an option of a N300,000 fine.
She also ordered the forfeiture of an iPhone XR, used in
committing the offence, to the federal government.
