Friday, June 20, 2025 - The Yobe State Hisbah Commission, on Thursday, Jan. 19, supervised the destruction and burning of 243 cartons of alcohol confiscated three weeks ago at Maina Lodge in Damaturu.
The exercise was led by the Chairman of the Commission, Dr
Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, and witnessed by security personnel and members of the
public.
The alcohol, consisting of various brands and types, was
destroyed in line with the laws and moral standards upheld in Yobe State.
Dr Yahuza reaffirmed that the consumption, sale, and
distribution of alcohol remain prohibited under the state’s religious and legal
framework.
He commended Governor Mai Mala Buni, for establishing the
Hisbah Commission and continuously providing the support and backing necessary
for its effective operation.
In a related development, 17 cartons of alcohol were also
destroyed in Garin Alkali, Bursari Local Government Area, by the Local
Government Hisbah Unit.
The Chairman called on residents to report any suspicious or
immoral activities, including the illegal sale or possession of alcohol, to the
appropriate authorities for prompt action.
The Hisbah Commission said it remained resolute in its
mission to uphold moral discipline and public safety in accordance with
religion and the values of Yobe State.
