Thursday, September 3, 2026 - This is the moment a man was struck by lightning and collapsed to the ground while walking to the dentist during a freak storm.
Video shows a bright beam violently zap Thomas Fahmy during
a thunderstorm in Staten Island, New York.
The Republican congressional staffer miraculously survived
the lightning strike with no single burn mark or serious injury.
CCTV video shows Thomas strolling in the rain past a white
picket fence along Todt Avenue on Thursday, August 27.
Thomas, who was holding an umbrella at the time, suddenly
falls to the ground as a bright orange firebolt hits him.
He told WNBC: “I was nearly 15, 20 ft away from my car when
I was struck by lightning.
“It was a very intense burning sensation, tingling,
numbness, pain. Sever pain in both of my feet.”
He cried out for help while he lay on the pavement before a
neighbour came to his aid.
Following the ordeal Thomas was rushed to Northwell Staten
Island University Hospital, where he was kept overnight for evaluation.
He was discharged the next day virtually
unharmed.
After his lucky escape, Thomas then went to church on the
Sunday to say “thank you God”.
With a new outlook, Thomas urges people to “appreciate life,
smile and breathe fresh air once in a while.”
He says “don’t let life overwhelm you.”
Thomas is the staffer for Nicole Malliotakis who praised him
following the strike.
She said: “We are happy, grateful and relieved that Thomas,
a valued member of our Staten Island office, is alive and well after being
struck by lightning last week.
“We appreciate the good Samaritan and medical staff at Staten Island University
Hospital who helped him get emergency care.”
The chances
of being struck by lightning are less than one in a million.
