
Wednesday, September 2, 2026 - Bello Abubakar, 45, has been arrested by the Kebbi State Police Command for allegedly attempting to k!ll a commercial motorcyclist and stealing his motorcycle in Shanga Local Government Area of the state.
The command said the incident occurred on August 23, 2026,
at about 4:00 p.m., when the victim, 22-year-old Bello Umar, a commercial
motorcycle rider from Wasagu Village in Danko/Wasagu LGA, was found with a
serious head injury at Tungar Dariya Bush, near Makera Village in Shanga
LGA.
According to a statement issued on Monday, August 31, by the
Kebbi Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, the victim was evacuated
to Koko General Hospital, where he received treatment and was later
discharged.
The police said preliminary investigation revealed that
Abubakar allegedly hired the victim’s motorcycle from Koko Town to Tungar
Dariya Bush, where he attacked him with a hoe.
“He covered the victim’s body with leaves, believing he was
d£ad, and made away with the motorcycle to Yauri Town,” the statement
said.
The command explained that sustained investigation led
operatives to the stolen motorcycle, which was traced and recovered,
subsequently leading to the arrest of the suspect.
The police said the suspect was cooperating with
investigators, adding that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal
Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Umar
Hadejia, described the alleged act as “despicable and a direct assault on human
life and livelihood.”
Hadejia warned that the command would continue to pursue and
prosecute individuals who target commercial motorcycle operators and other
law-abiding citizens.
“The Command will hunt down and prosecute anyone who preys
on commercial motorcycle riders or any law-abiding citizen,” the commissioner
warned.
