Friday, September 25, 2026 - The Nigerian Union in South Africa (NUSA) has condemned the killing of a 40-year-old Nigerian man, Olatunde Olaleye, in Pretoria, South Africa.
Olaleye, who was from Ikere-Ekiti, was reportedly shot dead
on September 21 while working at a bar and grill in Mamelodi, Pretoria.
In a statement released on Thursday, NUSA President-General
Smart Nwobi explained that the deceased was a married father of two whose
sudden death has left his family heartbroken.
According to reports, the shooting occurred after an
argument with a South African customer over taking a drinking glass outside the
premises.
The suspect allegedly returned shortly after the
disagreement and opened fire, while also threatening the management that his
group would return.
Nwobi called on South African authorities to carry out a
full and transparent investigation to ensure justice is served.
He also urged the Nigerian Mission and consulate offices in
South Africa to step up diplomatic efforts to protect Nigerians living and
working in the country.
