Two arrested for stabbing mum and attempting to steal her two-week old baby in Abia




Saturday, May 30, 2026 - The Abia state police command has arrested two persons, Nzubechi Chinagorom, 24 and Chinonso Chibundu, 25, for allegedly attempting to steal a two weeks old baby girl from her mother in Olokoro community on May 25.

According to reports, one of the suspects, Nzubechi, went into the residence of the mother, Amarachi Chinyereugo, 32, and attempted to forcibly take away her 2-week-old baby girl. As the mother struggled to keep her child, the suspect st@bbed her with a kitchen kn!fe, causing the child to fall and hit her head.

While Nzubechi attempted to snatch the baby, his accomplice, Chinonso Chibundu remained outside the house, acting as a lookout. Following the victim’s distress call, both suspects fled the scene but were later apprehended at a nearby bus stop, where they were reportedly found taking substances suspected to be hard drugs.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, the command's spokesperson, ASP Maureen Chinaka, said the mother and child were immediately rushed to the hospital, where they received treatment and have since recovered. 

She added that the suspects were apprehended, exhibits were recovered and an investigation has been conducted at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) after which the suspects will be charged to court on 2/06/2026.
