Sunday, May 31, 2026 - Nigerian singer Spyro has publicly urged major entertainment figures, including Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake, to leverage their platforms to demand the safe rescue of abducted teachers and students in Oyo State.
In an emotional video shared online, Spyro challenged his
industry colleagues to break their silence and advocate for the hostages. This
appeal follows his previous criticisms of religious leaders whom he accused of
remaining quiet on the mass abduction. He emphasized that high-profile artists
possess the reach necessary to amplify the crisis and pressure authorities into
action.
Spyro revealed that his plea was prompted by a disturbing
new video featuring the school principal, Mrs. Alamu, who is currently held
captive. In the footage, a visibly exhausted Mrs. Alamu begged President Bola
Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde, and the public to intervene. She disclosed that
the captive teachers and pupils are being subjected to harsh weather conditions
in a forest, exposed continuously to the sun and rain.
According to the principal, the kidnappers are losing
patience and have threatened to execute another teacher if their demands are
not met. Mrs. Alamu desperately urged the government to negotiate with the
terrorists and comply with their terms to prevent further loss of life.
In reaction, Spyro said;
‘’I saw the
video of the teachers yesterday and my heart broke. I wish there is something I
can do. I am begging every single Nigerian. They are trying to distract us so
that we do not speak with one voice because they know that once we are all
speaking about this thing, there is pressure on them. I am begging you Burna
Boy, Davido, I am begging every influential person…It can't just be business as
usual. I am begging you. Lend your voice to this course. This children might be
k!lled any moment from now. I am begging you. Let's all speak up'.”
