Monday, May 18, 2026 - Angry youths in Benue South on Saturday staged a protest during the ongoing primaries of the All Progressives Congress, demanding urgent action over persistent killings in parts of the Idoma-speaking area.
The protesters barricaded a major highway in Apa Local
Government Area of Benue State, disrupting vehicular movement and political
activities in the area.
Carrying a coffin and placards bearing various inscriptions,
the demonstrators chanted “No election” and insisted that political activities
should not continue while residents were being killed by armed attackers.
According to the protesting youths, the security situation
in Apa Local Government Area has deteriorated significantly, with repeated
attacks allegedly carried out by suspected armed herdsmen and other criminal
elements.
One of the protesters was heard saying, “Apa is bleeding, we
are saying no to election.”
