Monday, May 18, 2026 - Desmond Elliot, a popular Nollywood actor-turned politician, has cried out over withdrawal of his security aides.
Desmond, who is representing Surulere I constituency in
Lagos State House of Assembly, made the allegation a few hours to the All
Progressives Congress, APC, House of Assembly primary election on May 20,
2026.
Speaking in a trending video on social media, he accused
party leaders and local government officials of coercing party members to
support a preferred aspirant.
While stating that some local government officials were
removed from their positions over their support for him, he said,
“intimidation, coercion, twisting and forcing people to follow their own
candidate is what is happening today in Surulere. Telling them they
will not be beneficiaries of some empowerment.
“We have been intimidated so much that a lot of people have
been fired from the local government because they follow me. My security
personnel were also taken away from me yesterday. I’m now left alone to myself.
What have I done?”
This came after Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to
President Bola Tinubu publicly announced the withdrawal of his support for
Desmond following his involvement in moves to impeach Lagos House of Assembly
Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa in 2025.
Reacting to the development, Desmond, who is in his fourth
term in the Lagos Assembly, tendered apology to Gbajabiamila during his
appearance on popular TVC program ‘Your View’.
Warm greetings to all Surulerians and everyone at large. First off i want to say a very big thank you to our party leadership and most especially to our President, His Excellency President @officialABAT for allowing all candidates to test their popularity in their respective… pic.twitter.com/TkjCqP0UFM
