Suspected cultists kill man in Lagos

Monday, April 13, 2026 - The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the fatal shooting of one Adedipe Adeyinkan, popularly known as Agali, on the National Stadium Bridge, inward to the Iponri area of the state.

According to Punch, the incident occurred on Saturday evening. The victim was reportedly rushed to a hospital in Yaba, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

Confirming the development in a post on its X handle on Sunday, the command stated, “The command is aware of the shooting incident involving Adedipe Adeyinkan, popularly known as ‘Agali’, which occurred on April 11, 2026, at about 11:30 pm on National Stadium Bridge inward Iponri.”

The police added that the probe followed viral social media reports and footage that surfaced shortly after the incident.

A video from the scene, shared by @naijaconfra, an X handle known for reporting cult-related activities, showed a damaged white vehicle at the location, with a crowd gathered around.

The post alleged, “Iponri, Surulere: Last night, the number one figure of the Buccaneers cult group, known as Agali, was killed in the Iponri area of Surulere.

“Agali was the most feared and influential figure in the Buccaneers cult in Surulere. He was described as nice, friendly, and wealthy.”

Cult-related violence has remained a recurring security challenge in parts of Lagos, often involving clashes among rival groups such as the Buccaneers, Eiye, and Aiye.
