Thursday, September 3, 2026 - The Osun State Police Command has debunked a viral video purportedly showing policemen fleeing from a drone.
The Command said the footage was taken from a Yoruba movie
production and did not depict an operational incident.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its Police Public
Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Command said the footage was from
Omije Fun Omije Part 2, a Yoruba film shot in May 2026.
According to the command, a police patrol vehicle was used
during the movie production, while an actor dressed in police uniform was
momentarily left outside the moving vehicle, ran after it and boarded.
The command said “a bystander who was not part of the film
crew recorded the scene, tagged it as showing police officers running from a
drone and posted it online.”
It explained that the drone visible in the footage was being
used to film the movie and was not involved in any operational pursuit of
police officers.
“The Command rejects any narrative that serving officers
“ran away” from a drone.
“That claim is misleading, damaging to the reputation of the
Force, and inconsistent with the facts known to the Command,” the statement
said.
The command also criticised the circulation and presentation
of the footage without proper verification.
“Investigative journalism requires verification before a
clip is given a national or international frame.
“Publishing out-of-context footage and attaching a false
explanation is not a minor error when it is used to ridicule a security
institution,” it said.
The command called on those circulating the material to
retract the caption and narrative and issue a correction clarifying that the
footage was from a movie production and not an operational incident.
It also urged those circulating the video to “Desist from
presenting staged or unrelated footage as evidence of police cowardice or
misconduct.”
The command said, “The Osun State Police Command does not
condone the smearing of the Force.”
It added that it remained committed to lawful and
professional policing in the state and would continue to protect lives and
property.
The command also said it remained open to factual reporting,
but warned against what it described as deliberate distortion of images, videos
or media reports.
“What we will not accept is the deliberate distortion of
images, videos or any media report to drag the Command through the mud,” the
statement said.
