Wednesday, April 15, 2026 - The Abia State Police Command says, in its ongoing efforts against crime and criminality in the state, three fleeing kidnappers were neutralised and nine arrested over various crimes, while various exhibits were recovered between 1st and 14th of April.
Briefing newsmen on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police,
Danladi Isa, described the feat as “continuous strides in fulfilling its
(Police) constitutional mandate”.
He said, “From 1st April to date, the Command has recorded
the following achievements through intelligence-led operations: Ten (10) AK-47
rifles recovered, Two (2) locally made pistols, Three (3) single-barrel guns,
One (1) pump-action gun, Forty-four (44) rounds of live ammunition, and Three
(3) vehicles recovered.
“Other exhibits recovered include a wallet containing twelve
thousand, six hundred and fifty naira, Two (2) phones, bundles of keys, one
sack of gunpowder, seven (7) walkie-talkies, face masks, hand gloves, SIM
cards, a necklace, a military cap and various charms. Eight (8) male suspects
and one (1) female suspect were apprehended for various offences.”
The crimes, he said, include kidnapping, stealing of
vehicles, armed robbery, defilement, conspiracy/unlawful possession of
firearms, and recovery of stolen vehicles.
According to CP Danladi on defilements, leveraging on
actionable intelligence, operatives of Isiala-Ngwa Divisional Police
Headquarters, on 14/04/2026, apprehended Ngumoha Ogechi, “male” 63 years old,
who allegedly abducted and defiled a 16-year-old girl, collected her parents’
ATM cards and withdrew approximately two hundred thousand naira (₦200,000).
Similarly, he also said, “leveraging on actionable
intelligence, operatives of Eastern Ngwa Divisional Police Headquarters
arrested Godstime Chinasa, a male” 20 yrs old, from Obingwa, who allegedly took
a 15-year-old girl to a bush at Osa Ukwu and defiled her.”
According to him, in all, investigations are ongoing at the
State Criminal Investigation Department and that the matters will be charged to
court upon conclusion of the investigation.
The Abia State Police Command, the CP said, remains
committed to strengthening intelligence-led operations and crime prevention
strategies in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
He advised members of the public to continue partnering with
the Police by providing timely and credible information to the nearest police
station or through the Command’s emergency hotlines.
Earlier, the Ogun State Police Command arrested two security
guards for allegedly hacking a traveller, identified simply as Promise, to
death in the Ibafo area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi,
disclosed that the suspects, Isikilu Dauda and Rasaki Abbas, were apprehended
by detectives attached to the Ibafo Divisional Headquarters following the
incident, which occurred at about 7:00 am on Thursday, April 10, 2026.
