Friday, April 17, 2026 - A man identified as Ebenezer Frimpong has been arrested for allegedly stealing an armoured vehicle belonging to the Ghana Police Service in Nkawie Market, located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
According to Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred when the
driver of the police armoured vehicle briefly stepped away, leaving the engine
running in the busy market area.
Frimpong was said to have taken advantage of the situation,
entered the vehicle, and drove off, prompting an immediate response from
security operatives.
Law enforcement officers launched a coordinated pursuit
after receiving reports of the theft, tracking the suspect along the Nkawie–Mim
route.
He was eventually intercepted and arrested near Mim
following what authorities described as a swift and coordinated operation.
“The suspect was apprehended without further incident, and
the vehicle was recovered intact,” a security source said.
Authorities confirmed that the armoured vehicle was
retrieved without damage and has since been returned to police custody.
Frimpong remains in custody as investigations continue to
determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
