Monday, September 7, 2026 - The Edo State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has arrested nine suspects in connection with the alleged killing of two minors, a community chief and a driver in different parts of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem,
disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin City.
Ikoedem said operatives of the Jattu Division arrested a
23-year-old man, Omokhudu Innocent, in connection with the alleged killing of
two minors at Ayogwiri Community in Etsako West Local Government Area of the
state.
She identified the deceased minors as Praise Aloye, 7, and
Oshone Ekhaesomhi, 6.
According to her, the command received a report on August
31, 2026, concerning the death of the two children, prompting operatives of the
Jattu Division to mobilise to the scene.
She said the operatives discovered the lifeless bodies of
the minors, adding that their remains had been deposited at a mortuary for
preservation and further examination.
The police spokesperson said the case was currently under
investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.
She also disclosed the arrest of four suspects over the
alleged murder of a community chief identified as Chief Saturday in
Ajife community, Ovia South-West Local Government Area.
The suspects, identified as Daniel Babatunde, Abraham
Mumini, David Michael and Godwin Moses, all from Ajife, were arrested by
operatives of the Marine Police who were mobilised to the community on
September 2, 2026.
Ikoedem said the suspects had been transferred to the
Homicide Unit for further investigation.
The command’s image maker further disclosed the arrest of
four other suspects in connection with the alleged killing of a driver in the
Aduwawa area of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
She identified the arrested suspects as Idugie Emmanuel,
Odion Bondilum, Sunday Afeaya and Osazee Friday.
According to her, a minor motor accident occurred at about
10:45pm on September 2, 2026, in front of Drucicare Pharmacy, Aduwawa, Benin
City.
She explained that an argument broke out between the drivers
following the accident, after which Idugie Emmanuel allegedly called his
friends to the scene.
“The friends arrived and assaulted the other driver (name
unknown), leaving him unconscious,” she said.
Ikoedem said the victim was rushed to a hospital, where a
medical doctor confirmed him dead.
She added that the remains of the deceased had been
deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The police spokesperson said efforts were ongoing to
identify the deceased and contact his family, while preliminary investigation
into the incident continues.
