Tuesday, April 7, 2026 - Two men were killed in Kokami Village, Danja Local Government Area, after an argument over garri (cassava flakes) and sachet water turned violent.
The incident occurred on April 4 and involved Ibrahim Auwal
and a trader named Joe, also known as K.C. Jones.
The disagreement escalated when Mr Jones allegedly stabbed
Mr Auwal at his shop. Auwal was taken to Abdullahi Makama Hospital in Dabai,
where he was confirmed dead.
Following his death, some youths reportedly attacked Jones,
killed him, and set his body on fire along a nearby highway.
The Katsina State Police Command said it had arrested four
suspects linked to the mob killing.
Police spokesperson Abubakar Aliyu said, “The suspects are currently in
custody, and investigations are ongoing.”
He added that officers responded swiftly to restore calm.
Police Commissioner Ali Fage condemned the violence and
urged people to “report disputes to security agencies rather than resort to mob
action.”
The Katsina State Government also described the killings as
deeply unfortunate and unacceptable.
Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir
Mu’azu, said: “No individual has the right to take the law into their own
hands. All those involved will be brought to justice.”
He added that security personnel are patrolling the area to
maintain peace.
