The suspects were arrested when operatives of the command
intercepted two commercial buses laden with various illicit drugs.
A statement by Johnkennedy Edoziem, Media and Advocacy
Officer of the command, gave the names of the suspects as Zaharadeen Yahaya,
25, and Sanusi Maman, 23.
Edoziem said the suspects were arrested on January 15, 2026,
in an operation led by the State Commander of the agency, Dr. Halilu Hamidu.
He said the operatives conducted a successful operation
along the Asaba–Onitsha expressway, resulting in the interception of two
commercial buses carrying various illicit drugs.
While noting that operatives acted on credible intelligence
to arrest the suspects, he listed the illicit drugs recovered to include
410,800 pills of tramadol, 84.2 litres of codeine syrup, 82,250 tablets of
diazepam, 900 tablets of swinol, and 65 pills of molly.
He estimated the street value of the illicit drugs seized at
approximately N300 million.
The State Commander, Halilu Hamidu, commended the operatives
for their diligence and commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in the
state.
The state’s NDLEA boss, who assured the public of the
agency’s continued efforts to ensure a drug-free society, urged citizens to
support the agency in its mission to combat drug abuse and trafficking.
He said the suspects are currently in NDLEA custody and will
be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
