Thursday, November 20, 2025 - The lawmaker representing Enugu
North Senatorial District in Enugu State, Senator Okey Ezea, has passed away.
Ezea, elected under the Labour Party (LP), was the only
remaining National Assembly member from Enugu State on the party’s platform.
Family sources say he passed away in the United Kingdom on
Tuesday, November 19, where he was receiving medical treatment.
Born on 11 August 1963 to the family of Late Chief James
Ezea of Itchi, Igbo-Eze South, and Mrs Theresa Ezea of Nsukka Urban, Ezea had a
long career in politics and public service.
He co-founded the All Progressives Congress in Enugu in 2013
and became the party’s gubernatorial candidate in 2015.
In 2018, he was appointed chairman of the governing board of
the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo, a position he held until 2022, when he
resigned to join the Labour Party. He won the party’s senatorial ticket that
year and was elected senator for Enugu North on 25 February 2023.
