Tuesday, November 25, 2025 - Iran on Monday, November 24 strongly condemned Israel following the assassination of Hezbollah’s military commander, Haytham Ali Tabatabai, who was targeted in a strike in the Lebanese capital of Beirut a day earlier.
The Iranian foreign ministry issued a strong statement,
denouncing the killing as a "cowardly assassination."
“The Iranian foreign ministry strongly condemns the cowardly
assassination of the great commander of the Lebanese Islamic Resistance, the
martyr Haytham Ali Tabatabai,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.
Tabatabai is considered the most senior Hezbollah commander
to be killed by Israel since the November 2024 ceasefire began, which aimed to
end more than a year of hostilities between the two sides.
According to Tehran, the killing is a serious violation
and "constitutes a flagrant violation of the November 2024
ceasefire." It is a "brutal breach of Lebanon’s national
sovereignty."
Hezbollah had earlier confirmed the death of "the great
commander" Tabatabai, who was reportedly among the new commanders chosen
to lead the group after the war, though he was largely unknown to the Lebanese
public.
Israel has continued to launch strikes in Lebanon since the
truce, primarily claiming to target Hezbollah members and infrastructure.
While Iran is Hezbollah’s key backer, the militant group has
been significantly weakened by the recent conflict with Israel and the
overthrow of Bashar al-Assad in Syria. Assad's regime provided a crucial
overland connection between Hezbollah and its patron in Iran.
This setback comes as a blow to Iran itself, which also
sustained damage from Israeli and US strikes on its nuclear facilities during a
12-day war with Israel earlier this year.
