Tuesday, June 24, 2025 - Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade operating under the Forward Operating Base in Patigi, Kwara State, have arrested eight suspected kidnappers and rescued two victims during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout.
Lieutenant Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director of
Army Public Relations for the 22 Armoured Brigade, confirmed the development in
a statement in Ilorin.
The raid, reportedly carried out over the weekend, followed
credible intelligence that pinpointed a kidnappers’ enclave near Latandaji
village in Patigi Local Government Area.
Military sources said the troops encountered mild resistance
but eventually overpowered the suspects with superior firepower.
One of the suspects, identified as Mohammed Mohammed,
sustained gunshot injuries during the operation and was evacuated to Bacita
Teaching Hospital for treatment.
The victims, Mr Amos Moses and Mr Philip Michael, were
rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their families.
In a follow-up search of the area, the troops recovered two
motorcycles and two expended cartridge shells suspected to have been used by
the kidnappers.
The eight suspects are currently in military custody and
will be transferred to the appropriate authorities for further investigation
and prosecution, a military source said.
