Friday, October 25, 2024 – In a victorious battle against terrorists, the Nigerian Army has recovered a large cache of ammunition and rescued three women held hostage by terrorists in the North East.
The Army in a statement on Thursday, October 24, 2024, said troops
deployed across various parts of Zamfara and Katsina states, acting on
intelligence, successfully intercepted and thwarted terrorists' activities.
On 21 October 2024, troops in Zamfara state responded to a road blockade
by terrorists along the Jambako-Faru road in Maradun Local Government Area.
A fierce gunfight ensued, forcing the terrorists to flee, abandoning an
AK-47 rifle loaded with 7.62mm (special) ammunition. In another encounter at
Gidan Isa village in Isa Local Government Area, troops in a shootout
overwhelmed terrorists trying to cross the Marnona-Gudunmi-Isa road.
After the clash, troops recovered a significant quantity of ammunition,
including 297 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) rounds, 23 rounds of 7.62mm (special)
ammunition, two AK-47 rifle magazines, a motorcycle and a mobile phone.
In another operation in Katsina state, troops responded to an attack on
Damari village in Dandume Local Government Area, where terrorists had abducted
three women. After a swift pursuit, all the victims were successfully rescued
and reunited with their families.
Commending the troops for their bravery, the Chief of Army Staff charged
them to maintain the momentum in the ongoing operations.
He lauded members of the public for their support, especially in
providing credible information that are crucial to the successes so far
recorded in ongoing operations.
