Wednesday, October 7, 2026 - A man wearing an NYSC uniform was caught at Computer Village in Lagos State on Sunday, October 3, after allegedly trying to buy an iPhone XR using a fake bank transfer alert.
According to the phone seller, the suspect visited their
shop to make the purchase and showed a fraudulent payment confirmation screen.
Suspecting fraud, the seller confronted him and made him
demonstrate how he generated the fake transfer alert on his phone so other
vendors could be alerted to the scam.
While going through the suspect's transaction history, the
seller allegedly uncovered multiple fake payment receipts sent to different
individuals dating back to last year, suggesting a long-standing history of
similar scams.
The incident has prompted warnings for local business owners
to double-check incoming transfers, though law enforcement authorities have not
yet issued an official update regarding the man's arrest or legal status.
