Wednesday, September 16, 2026 - Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspects after foiling a robbery operation at a student hostel in the Eruku/Agbon area of Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Waris Dauda and Tiamiyu Abiodun,
were arrested in the early hours of Sunday, September 13, 2026, after the
police responded to a distress call about an armed gang robbing students at a
hostel.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State
Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta, Oluseyi Babaseyi on X on Wednesday, the
incident occurred at about 2:40 a.m. when operatives of the Ewekoro Division,
led by the Divisional Police Officer, raced to the scene.
The command said the suspects abandoned their loot in a
school bag and attempted to escape after sighting the approaching police team.
“However, the team pursued and successfully apprehended two
suspects,” the statement said.
A search of the abandoned bag reportedly led to the recovery
of 11 assorted iPhones, an HP laptop and various items of clothing.
The police said some of the victims had already identified
the recovered property as theirs.
Preliminary investigations also revealed that the gang
allegedly forced one of the victims to transfer N200,000 into an account during
the robbery.
Detectives have visited the scene, documented evidence of
forced entry and secured the recovered exhibits, according to the command.
The police further disclosed that searches conducted at the
residences of the two suspects did not yield additional incriminating items.
