Wednesday, September 16, 2026 - Four people were reported dead on Wednesday following a fatal crash that occurred at about 4 a.m. around Straight Gate School, Ipara Remo, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The crash involved a blue Mitsubishi Canter with
registration number FGE 753 XA and an ash-coloured HOWO truck with registration
number T-695 KT.
The crash was reportedly caused by speeding, fatigue and
wrongful overtaking.
The Mitsubishi driver, who was reportedly travelling at high
speed, rammed into the moving truck while attempting to overtake.
Fatigue was also identified as a contributing factor, as the
driver was reportedly fatigued during the journey.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the
Federal Road Safety Corps, Chief Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi, disclosed this
in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.
Odunsi said, “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun
State Sector Command, confirmed a fatal road traffic crash that occurred at
about 0400hrs on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, along the Ibadan–Lagos route at
Straight Gate.
“A total of eight (8) persons were involved in the crash.
Four (4) persons, all male adults, were killed, while one (1) male adult
sustained injuries and three (3) persons were unhurt.
“Two vehicles were involved in the crash: Mitsubishi
Cabstar, blue in colour, registration number FGE 753 XA. HOWO Truck, ash in
colour, registration number T-695 KT.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the crash was
caused by speed violation (SPV) and wrong overtaking (WOV). The Mitsubishi
driver, reportedly travelling at high speed, rammed into the moving truck while
attempting to overtake. Fatigue was also identified as a contributing factor,
as the driver was reportedly fatigued during the journey.”
