Thursday, September 17, 2026 - An elderly man, Muhammad Bello, has been hospitalised after he was knocked down by a vehicle that fled the scene at Agbowa Community, inward Itoikin Road, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency
Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement on
Wednesday.
Oke-Osanyintolu stated that Bello sustained severe injuries,
including suspected fractures to both legs, following the incident on
Wednesday.
He noted that the incident occurred at about 2:10 p.m. after
the agency received a distress call concerning an accident in the community.
The PS added that the agency’s LRT Lion Squad stationed at
Agbowa was dispatched to the scene and arrived within ten minutes.
“Upon arrival, responders found an elderly man identified as
Muhammad Bello lying by the roadside after being knocked down by a vehicle
which fled the scene immediately after the incident,” he added.
The PS noted that preliminary assessment by the agency’s
paramedics revealed that the victim sustained severe injuries, including
suspected fractures to both legs.
He added that the victim was conveyed to the hospital for
definitive medical care.
Oke-Osanyintolu sympathised with the victim and urged
motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules, conduct regular maintenance
checks on their vehicles and exhibit responsibility and empathy towards other
road users.
He also encouraged members of the public to report
emergencies promptly through the 767 and 112 toll-free emergency lines for
immediate response.
