Tuesday, September 1, 2026 - A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bashir Ahmad has criticised a United States lobbying firm over claims that President Tinubu will not be granted access to meet with his US counterpart, Donald Trump.
The US firm, Von Batten-Montague-York had in a statement
on Monday revealed that the meeting “Tinubu has been pushing for”
with Trump at the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA “will not happen.”
According to the firm, “key members of the Trump
Administration have made it clear that President Trump is not going to meet
privately with an alleged heroin trafficker.”
Reacting, Bashir declared that as a political attack
“dressed up as certainty.”
According to Bashir, “Tinubu is the democratically elected
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and allegations, however loudly
repeated are not convictions.”
The APC chieftain argued that “serious accusations should be
tested against credible evidence and due process, not presented as facts simply
because they fit a particular political narrative.
“It is equally irresponsible to declare, in advance, that
President Donald Trump will refuse to meet President Tinubu or that the
Nigerian President will be embarrassed at the United Nations.
“Unless the White House or the relevant diplomatic
authorities make such a position official, these claims are nothing more than
speculation presented as fact.”
