Wednesday, August 26, 2026 - An irate mob has allegedly beaten two suspected thieves to death after they were reportedly caught attempting to dispossess a commercial motorcyclist of his motorcycle in the Nasko area of Niger State.
The incident occurred on Sunday, according to a statement on
Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, which detailed the
operational successes recorded by the Nigeria Police Force across several
states.
Iniedu said police operatives responded to the mob action
following the deaths of the two suspects.
“The remains of the deceased were recovered and deposited at
the General Hospital, Nasko, while investigation is ongoing to establish the
circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those involved,” he added.
The FPRO stated that the case was being investigated by the
State Criminal Investigation Department, Minna.
Meanwhile, in Imo State, Iniedu stated that police
operatives arrested three suspected terrorist collaborators, including the
alleged owner of a terrorist camp.
He noted that the suspects were arrested by operatives of
the Anti-Kidnapping Unit on August 21, while two AK rifles were recovered.
According to him, one of the recovered rifles was an AK-49
allegedly linked to the killing of a Homeland Security Guard, while the second
was an AK-47 reportedly snatched from Agwa Police Station during an attack in
2022.
“The suspects are in custody as the investigation continues
to uncover the wider terrorist network,” the statement added.
In Taraba State, he noted that police operatives arrested a
50-year-old suspected manufacturer of illegal firearms and recovered six
firearms and weapons-manufacturing tools.
The police spokesperson said the suspect was arrested on
Sunday following credible intelligence.
He added that four locally made Dane guns and two
single-barrel guns were recovered from the suspect, who was reportedly
cooperating with investigators, adding that efforts were ongoing to recover
more weapons and arrest other suspects linked to the illegal firearms
operation.
Iniedu stated that officers in Plateau State repelled an
attack on Tanjol Village in Riyom Local Government Area on Sunday.
He noted that the assailants reportedly fled into the
surrounding forest following the intervention of security personnel, adding
that a joint search and rescue operation subsequently led to the recovery of
two injured security personnel, who were taken to the hospital for treatment.
In Bauchi State, a suspect was arrested over the fatal
stabbing of a 25-year-old man during a fight in the Bauchi metropolis on
Saturday.
The police said the knife allegedly used in the incident was
recovered as an exhibit, while the SCID, Bauchi, is investigating.
Similarly, in Gombe State, police detectives arrested a
suspect over the alleged killing of a 16-year-old boy in Gudukku District,
Nafada Local Government Area.
The FPRO said the victim sustained a serious head injury
during a disagreement before his death, adding that the suspect was assisting
the investigation.
He noted that operatives in Ogun State arrested one
suspected attacker following a report of threats and an alleged cult-related
attack in Kajola, Ikenne Local Government Area.
The FPRO said efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspects
who reportedly fled the scene.
He concluded that investigations into the incidents were
ongoing across the affected states.
