Wednesday, July 1, 2026 - Gunmen have abducted a pastor, Rev. Dr. Samuel Gbinde, in Benue State.
Rev. Gbinde, a Resident Pastor of NKST Andyar in Saghev, was
kidnapped along with two members of his congregation in the early hours of
Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
Nongo u Kristu u i Ser u sha Tar, NKST, (Universal Reformed
Christian Church) confirmed the abduction of the victims in a statement on
Tuesday, June 30.
In the statement signed by the NKST General Secretary, Rev.
Dr. T. A. Targba, the church disclosed that the victims were abducted from the
pastor's residence at NKST Church, Andyar, in Ishan Classis of Benue State.
Describing the incident as unfortunate, the church called on
all its clergy, members, congregations and the general public to join in
fervent prayers for the safe and unconditional release of Rev. Dr. Gbinde and
the two church members.
The statement also expressed sympathy with the affected
families and the congregation, praying that God would grant them strength,
comfort and hope during the difficult period.
NKST urged relevant security agencies, as well as the Benue
State and Federal Governments, to act swiftly to secure the victims' rescue and
ensure that those behind the abduction are apprehended and brought to justice.
The church further called on both levels of government to
adopt more proactive and sustained measures to tackle kidnapping and other
forms of insecurity, stressing the need to prevent such crimes rather than
merely responding after they occur.
Reaffirming its faith in God, the church said it remains
steadfast in prayer, trusting for the safe return of Rev. Dr. Gbinde, his
companions and all those currently held captive.
