Tuesday, June 7, 2026 - The Abia state police command says the 35-year-old woman, Nwoko Gift from Imo State, who was caught on camera ass@ulting her 12-year-old niece, Miss EBo Chimamanda, while armed with a Kitchen kn!fe, will be charged to court for attempted m#rder.
The Abia State Police Command has announced that 35-year-old Nwoko Gift will face attempted murder charges after a video emerged showing her assaulting her 12-year-old niece, Ebo Chimamanda, with a kitchen knife.
Confirming her arrest to newsmen in a press release, the spokesperson of the command, DSP Maureen Chianaka, said preliminary investigation reveal that on July 5, Mrs. , an Imo state indigene who resides at IBB Housing Estate, Umuahia, allegedly attempted to kill the victim because the child failed to hang up clothes to dry before the suspect left for the market.
Police reports further indicate a history of domestic abuse,
revealing that the suspect had repeatedly beaten and threatened to kill the
young girl in the past.
Operatives from the World Bank Divisional Police
Headquarters in Umuahia deployed to the scene following actionable
intelligence. The team rescued the victim, apprehended Gift, and recovered the
kitchen knife used in the assault.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal
Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. The suspect remains
in custody and will be formally arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the
inquiry.
