Friday, July 3, 2026 -The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Audu Bosso, has expressed grief over the death of two police officers who died after a patrol vehicle conveying seven operatives was involved in a road crash in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state.
Five other officers injured in the accident are currently
receiving treatment in the hospital, while the command has launched an
investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The Imo State Police Command disclosed this in a statement
issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye.
According to the statement, the accident occurred on Monday,
June 29, along the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road while the officers were on official
duty.
Okoye said the two officers later died while receiving
medical treatment, while the remaining five personnel are responding to
treatment.
He added that Bosso had directed that the injured officers
be given the best available medical care and all necessary welfare support.
“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu
Garba Bosso, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road traffic accident
involving seven personnel of the Command who were on official duty on June 29,
2026, along the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of
Imo State.
“Regrettably, two of the officers later succumbed to their
injuries while receiving medical treatment, while the other injured personnel
are currently undergoing treatment. The Commissioner of Police has directed
that every necessary medical and welfare support be provided to the injured
officers to aid their recovery.
“On behalf of the officers and men of the Imo State Police
Command, the Commissioner extends his heartfelt condolences to the families,
friends and colleagues of the deceased officers.
“He described their deaths as a painful loss to the command
and the Nigeria Police Force, noting that their dedication and sacrifice in the
line of duty will always be remembered,” the statement read.
The command also said Bosso prayed for the speedy recovery
of the injured officers and assured their families of the command’s support.
Okoye said a thorough investigation had commenced to
determine the cause of the crash.
The police, however, did not disclose the identities of the
deceased and injured officers.
