Tuesday, June
30, 2026 - No fewer than eight people were k!lled and 17 others
sustained varying degrees of injuries in a road crash along the Funtua-Katsina
highway in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Katsina Sector
Command, said the accident occurred at about 1:32 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026
at Layin Kukah on the Funtua–Katsina.
According to the command, the crash involved a commercial
Toyota Hiace bus with registration number 14B 92 TR and a Bajaj tricycle.
The FRSC Public Education Officer, DRC Shamsudeen Babajo,
said 25 people were involved in the accident, comprising 16 adult males, four
adult females, two male children and three female children.
He said 17 victims sustained injuries, including 15 adult
males and two adult females, while eight others lost their lives.
“The deceased comprised two adult males, two adult females,
three female children and one male child. The injured victims suffered
fractures and deep lacerations,” he said.
Babajo said preliminary investigations indicated that
wrongful overtaking was the likely cause of the crash, adding that the
identities of the drivers had yet to be established.
He said the FRSC rescue team, in collaboration with the
Community Watch Corps (C-Watch), evacuated the victims from the scene and took
the injured to Bakori Comprehensive Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of
the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital, Funtua.
The FRSC urged motorists to avoid dangerous overtaking and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable road.
