Thursday, May 14, 2026 - A 34-year-old Togolese, Biola Muhammed, has been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional centre by an Akure Magistrate’s Court, for alleged def!lement of a 13-year-old girl (name withheld).
The police charged the defendant, a farm labourer, with
defilement of a minor.
The prosecutor, Augustine Omheneimhen, informed the court
that the incident occurred at 9:30am on April 25, 2026, at No 32,
Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army District, Owena Barrack, Akure.
Augustine alleged that the defendant had unlawful s3xual
intercourse with the victim.
The offence contravenes Section 3(a) and is punishable
under(b,c) of the Violence Against Persons Law of Ondo State, 2021.
The prosecutor further told the court that he would be
relying on the statement of the victim, and her medical report from the 32,
Brigade Medical Centre, Nigerian Army, Akure.
He urged the court to remand the defendant in the Olokuta
Correctional Centre, pending the issuance of advice from the Director of Public
Prosecutions (DPP).
The defendant, Muhammed, however, told the court that he did
not know the victim or her mother, despite the mother’s allegation that he
raped her daughter and seized the victim’s phone.
His counsel, G.O Bernard prayed the court to transfer the
case to the Magistrate’s family court and the case adjourned to August 4, 2026.
The Magistrate, O.T. Lebi, ordered that the remand of
the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending DPP’s advice.
The case was adjourned to August 4, 2026.
