Friday, May 22, 2026 - Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, has revealed that he has been excluded from the England World Cup squad.
Manager Thomas Tuchel will name his England squad for
the World Cup on Friday, May 22, but Maguire will not be one of the 26 players travelling
to the US, Mexico, and Canada.
Tuchel reportedly made calls on Thursday to players who did
not make the cut for the tournament in the US, Canada, and Mexico, where
England face Croatia, Ghana and Panama in Group L.
The 33-year-old, who has 66 caps for the senior England
team, wrote on
Instagram: "I was confident I could of played a major part this
summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’ve been left shocked and
gutted by the decision.
"I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and
representing my country over the years. I wish the players all the best this
summer."
Maguire was in the running for the England squad due to his
impressive performance for Manchester United under manager Michael Carrick over
the second half of the Premier League season.
Since Carrick's first match in charge on January 17, Maguire
has missed just two league fixtures, playing the full 90 minutes in all.
His form was a key reason in helping United qualify for the
UEFA Champions League next season.
