Saturday, May 16, 2026 - Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly attacked a school in Borno State, abducting an unspecified number of pupils during a raid that threw the community into panic.
According to preliminary reports, the armed men stormed the
school premises on Friday, firing sporadically into the air before
whisking away students to an unknown destination.
The exact number of abducted pupils has not yet been
confirmed as authorities continue to assess the situation.
According to Daily Trust, a resident of the area, who asked
not to be named for security reasons, said the attackers arrived in large
numbers and overwhelmed the school’s surroundings before security operatives
could respond.
“We just heard gunshots and people started running. Before
we knew it, they had taken some of the children away,” the source said.
Security forces, including troops and local vigilante
groups, were said to have been deployed to the area shortly after the incident
to track the assailants and possibly rescue the abducted pupils.
