Wednesday, May 13, 2026 - President Bola Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s bid to host the
2026 CAF Awards ceremony.
According to the Nigeria Football Federation, Tinubu also
endorsed Nigeria’s proposal to host the CAF 48th Ordinary General Assembly
later this year.
The approvals were announced during the ongoing Africa
Forward Summit in Nairobi after Tinubu met with Patrice Motsepe. Other
officials present at the meeting included Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Samson Adamu,
Ibrahim Gusau and Amaju Pinnick.
The CAF Ordinary General Assembly, scheduled for October, is
expected to bring together presidents of CAF’s 54 member associations,
representatives from zonal unions and top football administrators across
Africa. The CAF Awards is one of African football’s biggest annual events,
celebrating the continent’s top players, coaches and football stakeholders.
Nigeria last hosted the ceremony in January 2017, when Riyad
Mahrez won the men’s Player of the Year award, while Asisat Oshoala claimed the
women’s prize.
CAF is expected to announce the final host city decisions
for both events in the coming months.
