Wednesday, May 13, 2026 - A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Asuwaye, who was abducted in Kaduna State has regained his freedom after three months in captivity.
The gunmen abducted Asuwaye, the parish priest of Holy
Trinity Catholic Church in Karku, 10 villagers and k!lled three others during
an early morning attack on the community in Kauru Local Government Area of
Kaduna State on February 7, 2026.
The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, confirmed his release in a statement
on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
According to the statement signed by the Diocesan
Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Jacob Shanet, the cleric is currently receiving
medical attention.
The Diocese expressed gratitude to God and all those who
stood by the church during the difficult period, revealing that the priest is
now in stable condition and in good spirits.
“We are pleased to inform you that Fr. Nathaniel is now safe
and receiving care. He is in stable condition, remains in good spirits, and
appreciates your prayers and support,” the statement read.
The Diocese said the release of the priest was a testimony
that God had answered the prayers of the faithful.
The Diocese urged Christians and residents to remain united,
steadfast in faith and continue supporting one another amid security
challenges.
