Tuesday, May 5, 2026 - A former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress.
Gwarzo disclosed this in a resignation letter dated May 1,
2026, and addressed to the Chairman of the ADC in Gwarzo Local Government Area
of Kano State.
In the letter, the former deputy governor said his
resignation took immediate effect.
He attributed his decision to recent political developments
and the need to review his membership of the party in line with his political
vision.
“The decision comes after deep reflection and wide
consultations with my political associates, supporters and well-wishers across
the state,” he said.
Gwarzo added that the evolving political landscape made it
necessary for him to chart a new course.
“Recent political developments and the evolving political
landscape have made it necessary for me to review my membership in the interest
of the people and the future of our state and the nation,” he stated.
He explained that his action was driven by what he described
as patriotic considerations and the desire to pursue a political path that
aligns with his ideals.
“My decision is informed by patriotic considerations and the
need to pursue a political path that aligns with my vision for good governance,
democratic values and sustainable development of our dear state,” he added.
The former deputy governor, however, thanked the leadership
and members of the party for the support he received during his stay.
“I wish to sincerely appreciate the leadership and members
of the party for the cooperation, respect and support I received during my stay
in the party,” he said.
Gwarzo did not disclose his next political move as of the
time of filing this report, but his resignation may be connected to the ongoing
political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
