Tuesday, May 19, 2026 - The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured a final forfeiture order on a private jet allegedly linked to the ongoing probe of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL.
Justice Deinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Lagos
granted the final forfeiture order on Monday, May 19, 2026, following an
application filed by the anti-graft agency.
The aircraft, identified as a Bombardier Challenger 605 jet,
was reportedly seized as part of investigations into alleged fraud, money
laundering and abuse of office connected to top officials and contractors
linked to the state oil company.
Counsel to the EFCC told the court that investigations
revealed that the jet was acquired with proceeds suspected to be linked to
unlawful activities and hidden through proxy companies and associates.
Granting the application, Justice Dipeolu held that the
respondents failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove the aircraft was
legitimately acquired.
“The property is hereby finally forfeited to the Federal
Government of Nigeria,” the judge ruled.
The EFCC said the forfeiture marks a major breakthrough in
its ongoing probe into alleged financial misconduct surrounding transactions
within the NNPCL.
