Wednesday, May 27, 2026 - A 30-year-old man, identified as Spiro Odese, has reportedly killed his father following a heated argument over a lack of food in the house in Edo State.
The incident happened on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Ikhe-khe
Uhumwenbho community in Ewatto, Esan South East Local Government Area of the
State.
It was learnt that the deceased, identified
as Friday Odese, was a farmer in the Ikhe-khe Uhumwenbho Ewatto
before he was allegedly killed by his son.
The 30-year-old man was, however, lynched by angry youths
following the killing of his father.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, alleged that
the killing resulted from a heated argument between the father and son over a
lack of food in the house.
“The son, simply identified as Spiro Odese, was irked with
the father’s response over his inability to provide food in the house.
“A heated quarrel then broke out, and angered with this
development, the son immediately reached out to a cutlass and used it to attack
the father, killing him on the spot”, he said.
The source added that a woman who saw the attack raised an
alarm and called for help.
He said a neighbour who attempted to rescue the man was also
attacked and inflicted with severe injuries, adding that the man is currently
in the intensive care unit in an undisclosed hospital in the state.
He stated that, following a reprisal from an angry mob, the
young man was lynched and in a few hours confirmed dead.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Edo State Police
Command, ASP Eno lkoedem said the police in Ewohimi Division are yet to be
briefed on the development.
