Friday, April 10, 2026 - US President, Donald Trump stated on Thursday morning, April 9, that United States forces will remain stationed in and around Iran until a "real agreement" is finalized and fully complied with. This announcement comes as Washington and Tehran enter a precarious two-week ceasefire mediated by Pakistan.
The truce, reached on Tuesday, has already shown signs of
instability. While the diplomatic window is open, Israel has continued intense
bombardments in Lebanon, and conflicting reports have emerged regarding the
specific demands required to end the regional war.
“All U.S. Ships, Aircraft, and Military Personnel, with
additional Ammunition, Weaponry, and anything else that is appropriate and
necessary for the lethal prosecution and destruction of an already
substantially degraded Enemy, will remain in place... until such time as the
REAL AGREEMENT reached is fully complied with,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Although the President suggested a total collapse of the
deal was unlikely, he warned that the U.S. is prepared to launch "bigger,
and better, and stronger" strikes if negotiations fail. He added that the
military is currently "loading up and resting" in preparation for any
necessary future action.
A major focus of the upcoming talks in Islamabad is the
status of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has agreed to reopen the vital maritime
chokepoint—which carries one-fifth of the world’s oil—for the duration of the
truce, but insists it will maintain "dominion" over the waterway.
This contradicts the U.S. demand for the passage to remain permanently open and
safe under international standards.
Further complications have arisen regarding Iran's nuclear
program. State media in Tehran recently circulated a list of demands in Farsi
that included Washington’s acceptance of their uranium enrichment program.
While this specific point was absent from the version of demands submitted to
the United Nations, President Trump asserted that the issue of enrichment would
be "taken care of" during negotiations, maintaining his stance that
Iran will possess no nuclear weapons.
