Sunday, April 5, 2026 -Borno State Police Command has confirmed the killing of four of its personnel following a foiled attack by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Nganzai Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Maiduguri, the Police
Public Relations Officer, ASP Keneth Daso, said security operatives
successfully repelled coordinated attacks on Nganzai and Damasak communities,
restoring calm and reinforcing security in the affected areas.
According to the statement, the attack occurred in the early
hours of April 4, when heavily armed insurgents attempted to overrun the
Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters.
Police officers, alongside operatives of the Police Mobile
Force and Crack Squad, engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle.
The insurgents reportedly used Rocket-Propelled Grenades
(RPGs) and other sophisticated weapons, damaging parts of the station and
partially burning an unserviceable Armoured Personnel Carrier.
“Regrettably, four police personnel paid the supreme price
in the line of duty,” the statement said.
In a related incident, the terrorists attacked the Mallam
Fatori Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, camp in Damasak, targeting a security
post manned by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and local hunters.
During the attack, a member of the hunters’ group,
identified as Atom Abua, lost his life, while about 20 thatched houses and
other properties were destroyed.
The statement noted that joint teams of the police,
military, Civilian Joint Task Force, and local hunters responded swiftly in
both incidents, successfully repelling the attackers and preventing further
destruction.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Naziru
Abdulmajid, has since deployed additional personnel and operational assets to
the affected areas to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.
He commended the bravery of the officers involved and
extended condolences to the families of the fallen personnel, assuring that
efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators.
The command urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, and
to continue supporting security agencies with credible information, reaffirming
its commitment to protecting lives and property across Borno State.
