Thursday, April 16, 2026 - Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has met with former governors of the state over the rising insecurity in parts of the state.
Former governor Fidelis Tapgun, who confirmed the meeting on
Thursday, said the discussions were fruitful.
The meeting was held on Tuesday at the Rayfield Government
House in Jos, where discussions centred on recent attacks in rural communities
and efforts to restore peace.
Those present at the meeting included former governors
Tapgun, Joshua Dariye, Jonah Jang, Simon Lalong and another former governor.
“Yes, we had a meeting with Governor Mutfwang. Other former
governors were present, and we had fruitful discussion,” Tapgun said.
Tapgun, however, declined to give further details and
referred our correspondent to a Facebook post by the governor.
In the post, Mutfwang said the meeting focused on security,
welfare and development issues in the state.
The governor wrote, “The meeting deliberated extensively on
matters concerning the well-being, welfare, progress, and overall prosperity of
the people of Plateau State.
“The high-level engagement critically reviewed the
prevailing security situation, particularly the recent violent attacks in rural
communities across the state. Discussions were focused on fostering sustainable
peace, strengthening unity, and promoting harmonious coexistence among all
residents.
“The leaders collectively resolved to pursue justice for all
and to establish robust frameworks that reflect the enduring courage,
discipline, hospitality and patriotism of the Plateau people within the
Nigerian project.”
Mutfwang added that the meeting also emphasised rebuilding
trust and restoring Plateau’s identity as the “Home of Peace and Prosperity.”
Plateau State has witnessed recurring attacks in rural
communities in recent months, prompting calls for coordinated security
responses.
