Saturday, April 11, 2026 - Stefano Gabbana, co-founder of Dolce & Gabbana, has stepped down as chairman of the company while remaining involved in its creative direction.
The fashion house confirmed that the 63-year-old resigned
from his corporate roles effective January 1, describing the move as part of a
broader organizational and governance transition. A company statement noted the
change was “part of a natural process of organizational and governance
evolution.”
Gabbana co-founded the brand in 1985 alongside Domenico
Dolce, building it into one of the world’s most recognizable luxury labels.
Following his departure from the chairman role, the position
has been taken over by Alfonso Dolce, the company’s chief executive and brother
of Domenico Dolce.
Reports also suggest Gabbana is exploring options regarding
his 40% stake in the business, as the company enters discussions with lenders
to refinance around €450 million in debt. However, the company said
negotiations are still ongoing and declined to provide further details.
Despite changes at the corporate level, Gabbana will
continue contributing creatively to the brand, which remains a major force in
global fashion, known for its bold designs and strong celebrity following,
including stars like Madonna.
