Monday, April 27, 2026 - Nine people were reportedly injured in a mass sho0ting near the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington early Sunday morning, April 26.
Gunfire erupted as crowds of revelers were celebrating the
famed “Little 500” college cycling race on the popular strip of Kirkwood Avenue
just after midnight, WTHR reported.
Police responded to the 400 block of East Kirkwood – a block
from Indiana University – where they found “multiple wounded individuals.”
Nine people were taken to local hospitals, including six by
ambulance, as of 3 a.m., the outlet reported.
Officials did not give their conditions or types of
injuries.
Witnesses said a fight broke out between two women before
the sho0ting, and one of the women appeared to pull a gun and open fire.
Witnesses recalled watching a fight break out between two
women before the sho0ting occurred.
“Two women fighting… I didn’t think too much of it,” a
witness told the outlet.
“I figured the police would get to it. But then I saw a girl
reach toward her pants leg and start firing. By then, I was already running the
other way.”
No suspects have been arrested so far, with police asking
for anyone with information or video of the incident to contact detectives.
No students are suspected of having been involved in the
violence, university officials said.
“Last night marred what should have been a celebratory
weekend for the IU and Bloomington communities,” university spokesman Mark Bode
said in a statement.
“While no IU students are believed to be involved, we
condemn the violence in the strongest terms and thank the Bloomington Police
Department, IUPD, State Police, and other law enforcement agencies who
responded to the events off campus.
“Our thoughts are with the victims of this tragic
incident,” he added.
