Thursday, March, 5 2026 - The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, says a fire outbreak at Faringada Market in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State destroyed 20 shops.
The agency disclosed this in a statement posted on its
official X page.
According to the statement, the incident occurred around
6:00 a.m. and affected mainly vehicle spare parts shops within the market.
NEMA said four containers and two vehicles, a bus and a
Toyota Corolla were also destroyed in the fire, while no casualties were
recorded.
The agency stated that its Jos Operations Office joined the
Federal Fire Service in responding to the incident.
It added that emergency responders were able to contain the
fire and prevent it from spreading to other shops within the market.
According to the statement, preliminary information gathered
from stakeholders at the market indicated that the cause of the fire has not
yet been determined.
NEMA also noted that investigations are ongoing to establish
the circumstances surrounding the outbreak.
The statement added that the incident resulted in economic
losses for traders affected by the fire while investigations is ongoing to
determine its cause.
