Police recover 2 stolen vehicles in Nasarawa

Thursday, March, 19 2026 - Nasarawa State police command have recovered two stolen vehicles in separate operations, while intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the recoveries followed coordinated intelligence-led operations across the state.

According to Nansel, the first operation was triggered by a distress alert reporting the theft of a black Toyota Prado SUV with Abuja registration number YAB 81 KC.

Acting swiftly, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, deployed operatives from ‘A’ Division in Lafia, alongside personnel from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Operation Nasara.

The vehicle was later recovered near Izallah Mosque in the Mararaba Akunza area of Lafia.

“Upon receipt of the information, operatives were immediately mobilised, leading to the recovery of the stolen vehicle.

“However, the suspects fled the scene and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them,” the statement read in part.

The PPRO added that in a separate incident, police operatives attached to Aso Pada Division acted on intelligence reports of suspicious individuals in possession of a vehicle at Aso B area, near the Assemblies of God Church in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area.

The suspects reportedly fled upon sighting the officers, abandoning a silver Pontiac Vibe without a registration number.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a number plate believed to belong to the car, a Nigerian Correctional Service beret, and photocopies of documents suspected to be linked to the vehicle.

Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the car had been reported stolen on March 11, 2025.

The statement added that investigations are ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to track down those responsible.

The Commissioner of Police urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies, assuring that the command “remains resolute and will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that all perpetrators are brought to justice.”
