Thursday, March, 5 2026 - An Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of one Ejigbo Ibrahim Oni at the Olokuta Correctional Centre over the alleged possession of a human head said to have been previously buried.
Oni was arraigned
by the Ondo State Amotekun Corps on a two-count charge bordering on alleged
possession of a buried human head and conduct likely to cause a breach of the
peace.
The prosecuting
counsel, DS Msonter-Shagba, told the court that the alleged offences were
committed on February 28, 2026, at about 12.30 a.m. at Supare Akoko in Akoko
South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Shagba informed
the court that the defendant was allegedly found unlawfully in possession of a
human head at night, which had earlier been buried and that he also conducted
himself in a manner capable of causing a breach of the peace.
According to the
prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 329 and 249(1)(d) of the Criminal
Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant,
however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Counsel to the
defendant, Kehinde Osadugba, urged the court to admit his client to bail on
liberal terms, assuring that he would not jump bail and would provide credible
sureties.
In her ruling, the
Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000
with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate
directed that the sureties must depose to affidavits of means, provide two
passport photographs each of themselves and the accused and show proof of
gainful employment by attaching evidence to the bail bond.
She further ruled
that one of the sureties must be a house owner residing in the property, with
submission of utility bills as evidence, and must be a Level 14 officer.
The court also
directed the orderly and the registrar to verify the addresses of the sureties.
However, the
defendant was unable to meet the bail conditions and was subsequently remanded
at the Olokuta Correctional Centre.
The case was
adjourned till May 4, 2026, for hearing.
